Jason Itri, MD, PhD

Dr. Jason Itri recently joined the Radiology Department at the University of Virginia after serving as Vice Chair of Operations at the University of Cincinnati and Director of Quality and Safety at UPMC. Dr. Itri completed his radiology residency (serving as Chief Resident) and abdominal imaging fellowship (serving as Chief Fellow) at the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his MD/PhD degrees at the University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Itri also completed the Joseph B. Katz and Physician Services Division Physician Leadership and Management “Mini-MBA” Certificate Program.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Penn Radiology Residency Baum-Laufer Service Excellence Award, the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award, the University of Pennsylvania Patient Safety Advocate Award, the American Roentgen Ray Society Executive Council Outstanding Resident Award, the ACGME David C. Leach Award, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine Roger A. Bauman Award, the National Research Service Award, the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms Award, and numerous national scientific exhibit awards.
Dr. Itri is certified by the American Board of Radiology. His research and clinical interests include measuring and improving culture of quality among hospital staff and trainees, measuring radiologist performance, diagnostic error, process improvement, and leadership development.
