It’s been a crazy week in radiology! The Minnie’s are gearing up, ASTRO finished up this week, and we’re getting inundated with article after article from every possible direction. As usual, there were a ton of interesting articles that came out this week related to our industry, and if you’re as busy as we are then there’s a pretty big chance you missed out on seeing—much less actually reading—most of them. Some were research related, some were fun, and some were inspiring, but there were a few articles that really stood out to us, and that we feel like are important for people to read. Not only are they incredibly interesting, they also cover two pretty controversial issues concerning the radiology industry right now. Here’s a quick breakdown for you!

It’s Friday, which means we’re ready to close out another great week. It’s been a pretty exciting one here in the radiology world, with tons of exciting new studies and news pieces fresh off the presses. It’s a big time for radiology, and CT is no exception. It feels like almost every single day there’s an exciting new case study, application or innovation being discovered for CT technology, and it’s something we’re pretty thrilled about.

Radiology gets a little bit of flack for being a “boring” field. As radiologists, we obviously think that assertion is ridiculous. Sure, some of the research studies can get a bit dry, but there are a lot of really cool things happening in our industry that are actually kind of fun, too! We think it’s important to highlight those things when they happen. So, without further ado, here’s a quick summary of three super fun things that happened in CT this week.

ISCT16 was awesome. If you attended yourselves or have been on any of our social media accounts post-conference, that’s something you’ll know for certain. Our speakers were incredible, the sessions were life-changing, and the wealth of information about everything CT that attendees left with was simply astounding.

That being said, we’re very much aware that not everyone was able to make it to this year’s conference, and we think that’s a shame. We are huge proponents of learning and lovers of CT, and if there’s anything we can do to help share what’s going on in our industry with even just one more person, then we want to do that.

If there’s one thing that’s clear at this point to everyone in our industry, it’s that the future of CT is looking incredibly bright. We’ve seen so many big changes over the past few years, and it’s an incredibly exciting time for our industry. Every day we’re uncovering more about CT, every day new innovations are put in place as radiologists continue to pioneer the frontier of CT technology.  It leaves just one question on the tip of everyone’s tongue: “what comes next?”

It’s the most exciting question facing our industry, and it’s one everyone is trying to answer. We were lucky enough to get a chance to sit down and talk with some of our speakers at ISCT16 about what they think is in store for the future of CT, and let me tell you, some of the answers are pretty exciting.

If you’ve worked in radiology for a while, you’ll know that there are a ton of myths and misconceptions circulating out there regarding our industry, some of them more funny than others. Each and every day we’re confronted by patients who have fallen victim to these misconceptions, who were told by a friend who was told by a friend that getting a CT scan will kill them, or that if you undergo too many x-rays you’ll have a Spiderman-esque transformation. 

Not all of these rumors are bad, some of them would be really cool if they were actually true (who wouldn’t want to turn into Spiderman?), but the fact of the matter is that many of them are, sadly, incorrect. Today we’re setting the record straight. Here are 4 of the most common CT myths that we hear, busted.

The radiology world feels a little like fire and ice most of the time; we can go months or even years with no significant innovations, or we can have a short period of time where exciting new changes are popping up like wildfires. It’s been two weeks since we wrapped up ISCT16, and we’ve finally had some time to sit back and reflect about what made this year’s conference stand out so much more than the rest. We always walk away from these conferences feeling amazed and excited about what’s happening in our industry, and this year was no exception, but if you asked us to name our number one favorite part about ISCT16 we wouldn’t be able to give you an answer.
